Zoo Atlanta June Happenings

EXPERIENCES

Treetop Trail presented by Kaiser Permanente Climb, zig, zag, zip, and balance at your own pace on an aerial playground in Zoo Atlanta’s KIDZone, and get a new appreciation for the amazing skills and adaptations of tree-dwelling animals. Treetop Trail is presented by Kaiser Permanente and made possible through additional generous support from the Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority. Children under 48 inches tall must be accompanied on the course by a parent or adult chaperone. Visit zooatlanta.org to learn more. African lion Wild Encounters Meet and feed one of Zoo Atlanta’s brotherhood of African lions in the newest addition to the behind-the-scenes Wild Encounters program. Gain a new fascination for Africa’s apex predator, and learn more about the challenges lions face in the wild. Participants must be 14 or older. African elephant Wild Encounters Go behind the scenes to meet and feed one of the giants of the African savanna during an exclusive up-close-and-personal encounter. Visit zooatlanta.org for reservations, details and availability.   

Aldabra tortoise Wild Encounters  Meet and feed one of the famous giants of Aldabra Atoll in an unforgettable Wild Encounter with some of the Zoo’s largest reptiles. Visit zooatlanta.org for reservations, details and availability.  

Giant panda Wild Encounters  Meet and feed a giant panda on the behind-the-scenes encounter of a lifetime. Visit zooatlanta.org for reservations, details and availability.  

Lemur Wild Encounters  Meet and feed some of Madagascar’s most dynamic, charismatic and endangered primates in a memorable behind-the-scenes experience. Visit zooatlanta.org for reservations, details and availability.  

 

EVENTS

Art Gone Wild - Paint-Out Week June 4-8 Zoo Atlanta visitors will have the opportunity to watch talented local artists create masterpieces en plein air throughout the Zoo using the animals, botanicals and scenes of the Zoo as their muses. Artists’ sketches and smaller works will be available for purchase at a clothesline sale from June 5-8 in the Grand Patio. See more at zooatlanta.org. 

Art Gone Wild - Art Show and Sale June 16-17 The Art Gone Wild artists’ finished masterpieces created during Paint-Out Week will be on sale in the Conservation Action Resource Center (the ARC). Zoo guests will have the opportunity to view the show during their visit. See more at zooatlanta.org.

 

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS & CAMPS 

Safari Camp: Summer Session  May 29 - August 3 Send your camper on a summer break discovery staycation! Young explorers enjoy Zoo tours, animal encounters, educational activities and much more. Each week will feature a new Safari Camp theme; activities are tailored for a variety of age groups. See more and register on zooatlanta.org.

NEW! Twilight Trek June 8 and June 23 Ever wonder what the animals are up to after the sun goes down? Join an after-hours evening adventure for the whole family. Use night-vision scopes to observe Zoo animals, simulate tracking of wildlife on Zoo grounds, and meet program animal ambassadors as you learn about conservation efforts and the work of real-life wildlife biologists. Bird Watch June 9 Tour Grant Park with a Zoo Atlanta bird expert to learn about native bird species and their habitats along with conservation issues they may face. After the approximate 1.5-hour tour, bird watchers will be admitted into the Zoo to enjoy the remainder of their day visiting animals from around the world. See more and register on zooatlanta.org.

Keeper for a Day: Birds and Reptiles June 9 What does it take to be an animal care professional? Help Zoo Atlanta animal experts with feeding and daily husbandry. Spend the morning with the Zoo’s feathered flyers; then venture to Scaly Slimy Spectacular: The Amphibian and Reptile Experience to work with Aldabra giant tortoises and more. NightCrawler: Zoo Technology  June 9 Spend the night at the Zoo during an unforgettable overnight adventure. Enjoy an after-hours exploration and learn about technology used at Zoo Atlanta. Programs include climate controlled sleeping facilities, a continental breakfast and the opportunity to enjoy the Zoo the following day. Register or learn more on zooatlanta.org.

Keeper for a Day: Show Birds and Animal Ambassadors June 23 Meet dozens of birds, mammals, reptiles and more! Spend the morning with the Zoo’s education animal ambassadors, and venture behind the scenes to the World of Wild Theater to help with the afternoon show. Participants must be at least 14 years old. Pollinator Day  June 23 The planet needs pollinators! From hummingbirds to butterflies to bees, these crucial creatures do much more than just keep green things growing; they also contribute directly to the availability of food worldwide. Join a day packed with family activities to highlight pollinators, learn more about Zoo Atlanta’s pollinator projects, and find out what you can do to help in your home and garden.
