You Are Invited to the Bicentennial Celebrations for the Decatur GA

City of Decatur is doing it up BIG for their 200th birthday! Come celeberate December 9th and 10th

Bring out the bands, cameras, and great spirits! This is a really BIG DEAL and you are invited. The City of Decatur is celebrating its bicentennial. Yes, 200 years in existence, and celebrations will be had on Saturday and Sunday, December 9th and 10th.  This is such an exciting time. 

Below is a list of events for the two-day celebration however you can celebrate all year long! Be on the lookout for ways to continue the fun. 


Saturday, December 9th

-Bicentennial Celebration 1 mile race, 9 a.m.

-Bicentennial Celebration Parade, 3 p.m.

-Bicentennial Celebration Birthday Party, 4 p.m.

-Bicentennial Celebration Fireworks, after dark around 6 p.m.


Sunday, December 10th

-Bicentennial History Tour, 3 p.m.


Historic Bicentennial Parade Celebration on Ponce

The Bicentennial Parade on Ponce will be a fun way to participate.  They would love for you to join in by foot, bike, wagon, vintage car, specialty car, float, or any creative method of your choice for the Historic Bicentennial Parade Celebration on Ponce. Prizes will be awarded for the best-decorated bikes and floats.

The historic Bicentennial Parade Celebration on Ponce line-up begins at 2:00 p.m. at the Decatur Post office located on Ponce de Leon Avenue.  The parade begins promptly at 3 p.m. and will wind its way to the square for a concert. The Parade is for anyone and everyone who wishes to participate. Children and adults can ride bikes, skate, decorate wagons, etc., and walk in the parade. Neighborhoods and civic organizations are encouraged to participate as well as politicians may put vehicles and/or floats in the parade.

The parade route is approximately one mile long and turns right out of the Post office parking lot on West Ponce de Leon Avenue. The parade will continue down Ponce right onto Church Street, right onto West Trinity Place, ending at North McDonough Street.
