So one of my students excitedly said, "Mr. Jeff, did you know Black History Month is coming up?" I smiled and said yes. "Do you understand the significance of Black History Month?" I could tell by the look on her face that she was puzzled, and it was something that she might have just overheard. So, the rest of the story went like this:
Alright, kiddo, let's imagine it like this: Black History Month is a special time of the year when we celebrate and learn about amazing people in history who were black. You know how we have birthdays to celebrate our friends and family? Well, Black History Month is like a giant birthday party for all the incredible black people who have done amazing things!
You know how we learn about superheroes who do brave and awesome things? Well, Black History Month is a time to learn about real-life heroes who fought for fairness and made the world a better place for everyone. These heroes could be scientists, artists, leaders, or ordinary people who did extraordinary things.
Just like we learn about different colors and shapes, Black History Month helps us learn about different people and their stories. It's important because it teaches us about how everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect, no matter what they look like or where they come from.
So, during Black History Month, we celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black people, and we remember that everyone's story is important and deserves to be heard. It's a time to learn, celebrate, and appreciate the diversity and richness of our world!
I feel that it is important that we teach our youth to embrace every culture. We are different and the same in the same breath. Lead with Love, Lead with Kindness and LEAD YOUNG PERSON!
