Description

Zoo Atlanta offers hands-on, minds-on learning experiences for all  ages.  Whether you come to the Zoo or the Zoo comes to you, you’re in  for a wild adventure. A sample of programs they offer are as follows:

The J.O.E.Y. Volunteer Program is  designed for kids ages 8-13 and their parents and guardians. Youth  volunteers and their adults serve together as a team for public events,  conservation initiatives, educational activities, and more. This program  puts the youth volunteers at the forefront, allowing them to develop  leadership, public speaking, animal knowledge, and confidence skills  while being supported by their parents or guardians. Many of our  J.O.E.Y. participants go on to join the Volunteen program once they turn 14, and many of their parents go on to join our Adult  Volunteer programs to allow the entire family to continue serving here  at Zoo Atlanta.

The Zoo Atlanta Volunteen program  is designed for teens ages 14-17 (and who are or will be in high school  during the program year) to explore animal science careers here at the  Zoo. Teen volunteers are able pursue their interests in animal care,  educational programming, conservation, research and professional  development. Volunteens serve in a variety of areas, including habitat  interpretation, public events, conservation initiatives, Safari Camp,  the Animal Nutrition Kitchen, basic animal care (husbandry), and more!  Each program year runs from June 1 through May 31 of the following year.  The more years that a teen participates in the program, the more  in-depth the program opportunities will become, so we encourage teens to  get involved early and to plan to stay! Teens will learn public  speaking, confidence, customer service, animal knowledge, and much more  during their time in the program.

Families United for Nature (FUN) - Become a wildlife hero by making sustainable choices in your everyday  life! Spend the third Saturday of each month with us learning how you  can help animals and the environment through simple choices and actions.  Each program includes a hands-on workshop to create sustainable items  that you can take home, make a connection to the animals at Zoo Atlanta,  and engage with other like-minded families. Zoo Atlanta will equip you  with the tools and knowledge you need to live a greener, more  animal-friendly life!

NightCrawler Overnights -  Calling all night owls! Spend the night at Zoo Atlanta and embark on a  nocturnal adventure you won’t soon forget! Offered for both groups and  families, programs feature interactive activities, team challenges,  animal encounters and opportunities to learn more about wildlife and  wild places.

Group NightCrawlers are ideal for all groups, especially school and Scout groups, with programs designed for specific grade and age levels. Family NightCrawlers focus on creating fun “wild memories” for parents and their children to discover together.

Participants  will spend the majority of the evening within the Zoo and will sleep in  indoor, climate-controlled rooms away from animal habitats. A light  evening snack and continental breakfast are provided. Participants are  invited to stay and enjoy the Zoo the following day after breakfast and  morning activities.

Adventure Cubs -  Calling all Adventure Cubs, ages 0-5, and their favorite grownups for a  morning of exploration, learning and fun! Embark on a new journey each  month with a Zoo educator as families get to learn and play together.  Spend time in the Zoo observing animals and taking part in engaging  activities. Each month, young explorers will learn about a new animal  and create a take-away memory that ties into the theme. This is a great  opportunity to make friends, connect to wildlife, and spend time with  your little explorers outside. All topics and activities are designed  for ages 2-5, with opportunities for exploration for ages 0-2.

In  the winter months (November through February), we will spend more time  inside and will include an animal encounter. If the weather is nice, we  will venture outside.
